june 9 (tom)

First of all, this is absolutely irrelevant to Lifebread, but I simply have to start out by saying how beautiful Colorado is. I have loved both Phoenix and Malibu, but there really is nothing like the Rockies.

While we have been in this lovely state, we have had to spend much more time doing Lifebread business than looking and experiencing the scenery, though. Last night we spoke at the Pepperdine Alumni Chapter in Denver and told them about our plans. The people there were incredibly receptive to our work (as Pepperdine audiences typically are to that kind of thing), and it really is great to see how the drive and motivation of Pepperdine students does not die off when they leave campus.

The alumni meeting was great, but it was not until after the meeting that the night had a truly special impact on me. One of the members of the chapter invited our team into his family’s home, and we just spent the night with him and his family. Not all of the team could make it so he ended up only having to host three of us, but the favor was extremely generous nonetheless. Earlier yesterday, we picked up two hitchhikers near Albuquerque who needed a lift up to Colorado Springs and invited them into our home (on wheels). These two events really made my day. It’s hard to explain how these two events actually affected me, but I know they each warmed my heart. It is sad how much a word as beautiful as “hospitality” is dying in American culture.
