june 6 (jessica)

We seem to be having problems keeping track of our keys. This morning the keys were locked inside the car we took to church. After a few agonizing minutes in the blistering Los Angeles sun, AAA came to our rescue. The day was spent finalizing the touches on our presentation and making sure we were ready to really hit the road after the youth rally. We arrived and set up early at Conejo Valley Church of Christ, and once again I was amazed at how amazing our set-up looks. Cecily is unbelievably talented. The youth rally started off well with a great introduction into the video by Dusty. However, the schedule did not go exactly as we had imagined. Instead of keeping the momentum we had going with Dusty’s carefully planned speech to set the tone, we were interrupted by a game that was supposed to be played before we spoke. It was hysterical how much of a 180-degree turn the game was from the tone we were trying to set. But we all just looked at each other and laughed, there was nothing we could do about it. After the game the video was shown and Tom talked about the Share the Bread Campaign. To our surprise, there was a lot of interest in the campaign. We had no idea what the response was going to be since it truly was our first time really pitching the idea, but from this event we anticipate good things to come. Once the rally was over, Marv (the RV) was packed up and prayed over before we left.

Only a few minutes into our drive to the nearest gas station we smelled an awful burning odor. As we pondered what the problem could be I realized that Tom had forgotten to take off the emergency brake. Luckily, the burning smell subsided as soon as the brake was released. I was afraid Marv was already giving us trouble. Truth is, we are just trying to figure out how to operate a 31-foot vehicle.
